Resignation cannot be attributed to a single reason. Injuries, exhaustion after many years under pressure and the feeling of having given everything came together and made the end at Wimbledon a natural conclusion in 1999.
Becker decided to say goodbye where it had all begun, and thus closed an important chapter of German tennis.
