Nerve problems can begin subtly. A little tingling in the feet, occasional numbness in the fingers, or a strange burning sensation may seem easy to dismiss, especially when symptoms come and go.
But persistent changes in sensation, strength, balance, or coordination can sometimes indicate that nerves are irritated, compressed, or damaged.
These symptoms do not automatically mean you have neuropathy or another neurological disease. Nerve-related symptoms can be caused by diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid disorders, medications, alcohol use, infections, spinal problems, repetitive strain, or many other conditions.
